“Firefly Lane” Is Returning For Its Second and Final Season in December

It’s official: season two of Firefly Lane” is coming soon. The series follows two best friends named Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) and the ups and downs they’ve faced through the years. It’s basically everything you love about soapy dramas like “Sweet Magnolias” and “Virgin River,” with a twist of “This Is Us.”

Unfortunately, the second season will be the series’ last, Netflix revealed on Oct. 3. The final season will consist of a total of 16 episodes split into two parts.

Since the last episode of the first season ends on a major cliffhanger, we’re already curious to know what will happen next. And given that it’s based on Kristin Hannah’s book series of the same name, there’s plenty of inspiration to draw from. While there’s no telling how closely the second season will follow the second book, “Fly Away,” there are still plenty of storylines to explore in future episodes. Why aren’t Tully and Kate speaking in present day? What happens to Johnny? We need answers, and hopefully, we’ll get them soon!

Ahead, check out what we know about the next and final season of “Firefly Lane.”

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 Cast

Heigl and Chalke will return as Tully and Kate, and ensemble cast members Ben Lawson, Beau Garrett, Ali Skovbye, Roan Curtis and Yael Yurman will also be back to bring the story to a close. India de Beaufort, Greg Germann, Jolene Purdy, and Ignacio Serricchio will join the cast as new characters Charlotte, Benedict, Justine, and Danny respectively.

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 Plot

The first season ends with Tully affectionately promising Kate that she’ll help her get a new job as the two snuggle up by a firepit — but then it suddenly flashes forward to a scene at a funeral where Kate tells Tully she doesn’t want to see her ever again. Season two seems destined to explain exactly why Tully and Kate’s relationship fell apart. It’ll also likely explore Tully’s career progression and Kate’s relationship with her daughter, Marah.

“With her talk show ‘The Girlfriend Hour’ officially canceled, Tully looks to new career opportunities, and who better than Kate to act as her producer?” reads Netflix’s announcement, which also suggests that we’ll finally find out what actually created the rift in the pair’s friendship. “What Kate doesn’t yet know is that her ex-husband Johnny (Ben Lawson) has been injured while working as a journalist in Iraq. Kate and Tully end the season celebrating their new partnership on the former’s porch as the phone rings ominously inside. But the biggest mystery in the first season centered around Kate and Tully’s falling out.”

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 Release Date

The first nine episodes of “Firefly Lane” season two will be released on Dec. 2, with the second seven coming sometime in 2023.
