Alisa Stepura, a London-based artist and producer, is set to release a new single, “Heaven’s Jealous”, a love letter to music itself. It’s coming out on December 1st of 2023 and here is what to expect:
After finding her style, Alisa immersed herself in experimentation with songwriting and lyricism. The record is a personification of the artist’s career – it’s compared to the light of her life that is so bright and perfect even heaven would be jealous of it, hence the title. The inspiration behind the song’s passionate depiction of music was the Artic Monkeys’ “She’s Thunderstorms”, and Stepura included a homage to the track in one of the lines. As for other inspirations, “Something Real” by Post Malone played a crucial role in the arrangement, with a powerful choir driving the chorus of the song.
The song will explore new, style-wise for Alisa, dynamics, going from busy sections to soft and tender ones, and back to driven production that she loves doing. An essential part to her musical “voice” and mixing style, Stepura has used lots of analogue processing when working on the piece. The two compressors that could be heard throughout almost the whole record are the Dbx 266xs and Phonic PLC3200. Both being used in “unorthodox ways” helped achieve the over-compressed yet punchy tone of the drums.
The single is to be a part of the album Alisa is currently working on, titled “All the Swords Swung for Love”, which will be released in the summer of next year.
