The action-thriller “Violent Night” definitely puts a different spin on Christmas mythology, with an action-hero Santa Claus facing off against a brutal version of Mr. Scrooge and his home-invading goons. If this movie is your idea of a holly-jolly good time, then you might be in luck: a sequel could be in the works.
“We’re hoping to start working on a ‘Violent Night 2,’ if everything goes well the next few weeks,” producer Kelly McCormick told Collider. “We have a tendency to just keep our heads down and focus on what’s in front of us, or near. So yeah, that’s kind of it. We’re in it. We still have two and a half months of work to do on [upcoming film “The Fall Guy”].” Although the production team have multiple other projects in the pipeline, including a sequel to the 2021 thriller “Nobody,” a “Violent Night” sequel is definitely on their minds.
“Violent Night”‘s Midcredit Scene Explained
It’s clear from the movie itself that a potential sequel was considered from the beginning. The movie features a midcredits scene that both continues a joke from the movie and seems to set up the opportunity for a sequel. Obnoxious influencer Bertrude reveals the aftermath of Santa’s violent heroics to his social media followers, asking them to believe that Santa is real. In the universe of the movie, Santa’s powers are based on how many people believe in him; the more believers out in the world, the stronger he gets. This seemingly silly scene could also be setting up a sequel with a more powerful Santa — and, as we’ve seen with all the superhero movies of the last couple of decades, more power and a higher profile tend to mean more dangerous foes.
For now, it’s all up in the air, and it’s certainly possible that none of this comes to pass at all. Still, with the generally positive reception to “Violent Night” and the enthusiasm of the production team, it looks fairly likely that we might see Santa kicking butt again in the relatively near future.
